March 26 Outreach Batang Riles (Children of the Railroads): Let Love Thrive with JCI Damas de San Pedro and Tau Gamma San Pedro
On March 26, Let Love Thrive Foundation partnered with nonprofit organizations, JCI Damas de San Pedro and Tau Gamma San Pedro for a meaningful outreach in San Pedro, Laguna, reaching a marginalized community living along what was once a railroad track. This area, home to thousands, is divided into thirteen small neighborhoods known as "poroks." Despite the challenges this community faces daily, we were welcomed with open arms and hearts full of gratitude.
Our team gathered at 3 PM and began walking through the narrow alleys of the community. It was hot and crowded, and we honestly didn’t know what to expect. But with Tau Gamma San Pedro guiding and helping keep things organized, the experience became a beautiful journey of connection. As we reached Porok 8, the heart of the community, we were met with cheerful faces, excitement, and a sense of hope that reminded us exactly why we do what we do.
Throughout the day, we were able to provide:
Grocery vouchers for 100 families
Rice pack vouchers for 70 mothers
Meal vouchers for 260 children
Originally, we prepared 200 children’s meal vouchers, but as more kids arrived from farther poroks, we made sure to provide for them as well, adding an extra 60 meals so no one would be left out. Seeing the kids receive their meals, some with shy smiles and others with bursting energy, was one of the most heartwarming parts of the day.
After the meal distribution, JCI Damas de San Pedro gathered the children for a short talk on anti-bullying as part of their ongoing program. The kids listened intently and then enjoyed fun games and activities. Their laughter filled the air, and for a while, it felt like time slowed down and the weight of their daily struggles was lifted, even just a little.
It was a reminder to all of us that kindness, no matter how simple, leaves a lasting impact. While we weren’t able to reach all thirteen poroks this time, this outreach was just the beginning. We are committed to coming back and continuing to build trust, connection, and support in this resilient and loving community.
Even in small acts, love has the power to transform. We look forward to returning and doing even more together. Together, we thrive.
