The Commission on Human Rights, in partnership with Let Love Thrive Org, Mindcare Club PH and the Correctional Institute for Women concluded Women’s Month with a meaningful Mental Health and Legal Rights Workshop for Incarcerated Women with Disabilities.
The workshop was attended by 50 women, aged 39 to 75, many of whom have been incarcerated for over 20 years due to minor, non-violent offenses. Despite the time that has passed, these women have shown good conduct and no longer pose a threat to society. The Commission on Human Rights, represented by Commissioner Reyes, is actively working toward helping them seek release and possible exoneration so they may spend the rest of their lives with their families.
During the event, psychologists from Mindcare Club led a mental health workshop focused on managing everyday stress, with special attention to the deep loneliness many of the women expressed. The team offered both group discussions and one-on-one talk therapy, providing coping tools and emotional support.
To promote dignity and wellness, we also distributed hygiene kits to each participant. The CHR provided a sign language interpreter, ensuring inclusivity and that every woman was seen and heard.
Let Love Thrive delivered a message of encouragement, reminding them that mental health matters, and that even within prison walls, their well-being and human rights still hold value. The women were genuinely excited and deeply grateful for the care, time, and support they received.
This day was a powerful reminder: compassion, healing, and justice must extend to everyone, regardless of circumstance. We remain committed to standing alongside these women and others like them on their journey toward hope, healing, and, one day, freedom.
Together, we rise. Together, we thrive.
